I have changed my mind.
I allowed myself to believe that others knew better than I did, and in an ego moment of righteousness around the value of my work and fear of not having enough money, I made the decision to make certain content only available to paid subscribers.
I don't think this choice ever felt good inside but I followed what the successful people here on Substack have done, taking weeks to agonize over how to organize and charge for my work.
Now I'm changing the change.
A good part of the credit for this goes to an amazing organization called The Trauma of Money. Through the class I took from them, I am much more aware of how the toxic threads of capitalism influence so much of our lives.
Instead of unconsciously falling into that trap, trying to make people feel special because they get more from paying, I'm going to put the responsibility for feeling special squarely on your shoulders. And if what I write and how it affects you is something you would like to express appreciation for, then become a subscriber for $5 a month.
If, for whatever reason, that doesn't feel right to you but you want to still keep reading, do that.
Do what feels right and good to you. I'll be over here creating content from my heart, allowing myself to be vulnerable, not only for my healing but for yours.
With love,
staci
The fact that you can place value on your work without folks expressing that value monetarily says a lot about your evolution as a spiritual person. Nevertheless, to riff/rip off the late Henny Youngman, take my monthly fiver, please (I'll keep my wife, though 😄). It's a pleasure to support a writer who allows their heart, not their wallet guide what they write.
